Recreational Report Cards
The one where we measure progress.
Every 3 months our gym goes through our recreational class report cards. These have been a work in progress and still are a work in progress as we figure out what works best for our gym. These classes are framed after the USAG levels BUT we understand that not everyone is going to want to be on team. We do have recreational classes that are above a level 4 level and typically these are kids who enjoy gymnastics but are also in other sports and can't commit the time to team.
At our gym, we have 5 different recreational class levels. We start out with Beginner and Advanced Beginner, and move into Intermediate, Advanced Intermediate, and finally Advanced. With the beginner classes being 60 mins total and only 20-25 mins per event, you'll only see 4 skills required to master on each event. This small focus is also due to each class completing each event every other week so progress is going to be a little slower than lets say level 8 who practices 16 hours a week.
You might be thinking, you only do report cards every 3 months?!? What about the kids who excel quickly? What about the kids who come in and out of classes month to month? Isn't that a lot on your coaches at one time?
The majority of report cards get handed out every 3 months but if a coach can tell a student needs to move up early, they move them up early. Our coaches also keep track of their students progress throughout the months rather than scrambling at the end to fill out the report cards. They have a small check list they can update with each skill and each student's name.
