My First Post
The First One.
I starting "Positive Gymnastics" back in the middle of the panorama of 2020 since I was working from home like many others. Fast forward and I quit my job as a school counselor and returned to coaching gymnastics full time and running the gym business. Blogging and posting immediately went to the back burner. I still dabbled in TikTok and Instagram posting but it wasn't until recently that I decided, if I am doing all this work already (lesson plans, team building activities, mental gymnastics activities, etc) why aren't I posting it for the rest of the world!
There is no formal gymnastics coach training. The majority of us have just learned from the coaches who coached us which I think has turned into a large problem across the sport. While I don't use my counseling degree directly as a school counselor, I am thankful everyday that I worked hard for my master's degree. Without it I would still be having kids climb the rope if they didn't do their skills. Sure we all want our most talented to go to the best D1 school there is but putting all your marbles in that basket will not grow a program of well rounded little human beings. Parents in the end want great kids that turn into great adults, not robots that struggle with dependency and mental health disorders.
What's my point? - You can be a good coach AND have your gymnasts have a positive gym experience. That is exactly what this blog will be about and the approaches you can take to make it happen. Learn from me and learn with me all at the same time.
